About Our Superintendent

Mr. Thoming has been with the district since 2002 when he started as a 6th grade teacher. He has served the district in his current role as Superintendent since 2006. Mr. Thoming is proud to be a graduate of New Jerusalem School (Class of ’83) and strives to balance long standing traditions with leading edge educational practices and programs. Mr. Thoming has earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and a Master’s Degree in School Administration from Cal State Stanislaus and also holds valid teaching and administrative credentials.

He has an “open door” policy and encourages students, parents, and community members to visit anytime. Mr. Thoming lives in the area with his wife and three children and continues his family’s farming tradition with 25 acres of almonds.

The district currently authorizes 16 charter schools, and directly operates 11 of those. Outside of his superintendent role, Mr. Thoming has served as an expert witness in a high profile charter school case and has taught Education Law for aspiring administrators for the California State University, Stanislaus, School of Education.

He is a “hands on” leader, and his knowledge of the Education Code and how it pertains to both districts and charter schools is amazing. He has helped many charter school operators, as well as districts, get established and wade through the various levels of approval, implementation, operation, and oversight of charter schools.
